The Best Cleaning Products and Tools Recommended by a Professional Cleaner 🙌

One of the questions I’m asked most often is: “Which cleaning products do you use?”

The truth is, you don’t need a cupboard overflowing with products to keep your home clean. A few reliable cleaners and the right tools can handle most everyday jobs.

These are some of the products and tools I regularly use across Liverpool homes. Some are everyday essentials, while others are brought out for particular surfaces or deeper cleans.

Bathroom cleaning products:

Domestos Power Foam

A versatile bathroom cleaner that I use on suitable toilets, baths, showers, sinks and tiles. The foam makes it especially useful for covering larger areas and reaching awkward spots.

Kilrock Mould Remover

Designed to tackle black mould on compatible tile grout, silicone and shower enclosures. It’s particularly useful when ordinary bathroom cleaner isn’t strong enough to address mould staining.

Magic sponges

Brilliant for certain stubborn marks on baths, shower trays, tiles, doors, skirting boards and some painted walls. They are mildly abrasive, so they aren’t suitable for every finish.

Viakal Limescale Remover

One of my go-to products for tackling limescale and water marks on suitable taps, shower screens, tiles, sinks and shower fittings. It can make a noticeable difference in hard-water areas.

General cleaning products:

Zoflora Concentrated Disinfectant

Useful for disinfecting suitable washable hard surfaces after visible dirt has been removed. It is available in lots of fragrances, making it a popular choice for leaving a home smelling fresh.

White vinegar

A useful option for light limescale, soap residue and streaks on compatible glass and chrome. It has several practical cleaning uses, although it shouldn’t be relied upon as a disinfectant.

The Pink Stuff Cleaning Paste

Helpful for stubborn grime, burnt-on residue and marks on durable surfaces. Because it is abrasive, it needs to be used carefully and isn’t appropriate for delicate or easily scratched finishes.

Asevi Floor Cleaner

One of my favourite products for routine mopping. It cleans compatible sealed floors while leaving behind a lovely fresh scent.

Elbow Grease Glass Cleaner

Ideal for mirrors, windows and other suitable glass surfaces. It gives a clear finish without needing lots of product.

Wood polish

Useful for removing light dust and fingerprints while adding shine to compatible finished wooden furniture.

Bicarbonate of soda

A mild abrasive and deodoriser that can help with stained containers, sinks and stubborn grime on durable surfaces. It is an inexpensive and versatile addition to a cleaning cupboard.

Kitchen cleaning products:

Elbow Grease All-Purpose Degreaser

One of my everyday favourites for greasy hobs, extractor fans, splashbacks, cupboard fronts and other compatible washable kitchen surfaces.

Cleaning tools:

Products are only one part of cleaning. Having the right cloth, brush or duster can make a job much quicker and reduce how much product and physical effort you need.

Microfibre cloths

Useful for dusting, wiping, drying and polishing because microfibre collects dust effectively. Colour-coded cloths can also help keep toilet, bathroom, kitchen and general cleaning tasks separate.

All-purpose cloths for dirty jobs

Handy for toilets, greasy ovens, bins and other jobs that could stain or ruin your better microfibre cloths.

Crevice brushes

One of the most useful tools in my cleaning kit. They are excellent for tap bases, shower tracks, window frames, hob edges, plugholes and other narrow gaps that a cloth can’t properly reach.

Extendable duster

Makes it much easier to reach ceilings, light fittings, high shelves, curtain poles and the tops of wardrobes.

Damp duster

Particularly useful for skirting boards, bannisters, radiators and areas where dry dusting might simply send dust back into the air.

Blind-cleaning tool

Designed to clean several Venetian-blind slats at once, making a fiddly and time-consuming job more manageable.

Cleaning sponges

Useful for sinks, baths, showers and compatible kitchen surfaces that need more agitation than a cloth can provide.

A quick safety reminder!

Always follow the instructions on the product label, check that the product is suitable for the surface and patch-test it in an inconspicuous area if you’re unsure.

Never mix cleaning products, particularly bleach or mould remover with vinegar, Viakal, other limescale removers or ammonia. Keep rooms ventilated when using stronger products and store all cleaning products safely away from children and pets.
